Comprehensive evolution of human in the Imam Mahdi’s government

Concerning the fact that it is the era of emergence of Imam al-Mahdi (AS), which is the age of authority of divine virtues in human life and time of emergence and manifestation of all latent human talents, which, for whatever reason, have not been manifested by that time, one of the most significant points he will consider after emergence is people’s wisdom and their intellectual development and provision of intellectuality among them. Depicting the era of emergence from this point of view, Imam Baqir says: when The Upholder rises, he will put his hand over people’s heads through which people’s intellectual forces will be focused and their wisdom reached perfection.
Human has enjoyed a highly lofty dignity and status in existence system such that he was prostrated by angels. And, this is because The Wise has bestowed features, characteristics, benevolence and honor upon human nature, and granted them inbuilt capacity to achieve perfection through which human is able to acquire more of benevolence.
Different religions and schools of thought have proposed various matters and criteria on human benevolence, dignity and status. Islam has allotted some parts of its instructions to human and his lofty status in existence system, and its view towards human is of real type and on the basis of his ability and capacity.
Revering human in Quran and Islamic narrations is of prime importance. And, this is because of innate dignity and goodness of human and at times due to his acquired goodness and dignity.
Examining benevolence characteristics of human based on Islamic insight and delineating Islamic point of view and ways of life of the infallible (AS) in this area could affect modeling and divine and human education of the society. A detailed discussion in this area demands more time; and the following will discuss part of it; i.e., “Imam al-Mahdi’s conduct” towards human reverence, through which we hope to pave the way for moral and spiritual development, elevation and progress in ourselves and others, and transform various family, individual and social relations, particularly complicated relations of today urbanization with which the majority of people in society deal, and as a result train ourselves using religious and human criteria, and think of other people’s elevation. Although we have to admit that due to Imam al-Mahdi’s occultation and people’s having no contact with him, depicting his practical conduct is complicated and even impossible. The final thing in this area in which we can trust are narrations indicating Imam al-Mahdi’s conduct concerning human reverence compared with his conduct after emergence through which we can achieve general criteria of the way he treats towards human status, rely on them during occultation and receive instruction such that they are adjustable in social and individual life as occultation era demands it.
With such a perspective, a number of items relevant to Imam al-Mahdi’s conduct about human reverence taken from narrations are mentioned so that through modeling, we can make enough use of them in our life.
1. Intellectual Development of People
Obviously, intellect and wisdom are the most significant privileges of human that distinguishes him from other creatures and animals; and this, in fact, is indicative of innate human benevolence bestowed upon him by God.
Therefore, it is necessary for human to constantly strive for developing and flourishing it, use it in different individual, social and family relations, use it as a criterion for identifying the right and wrong, avoid sensuality arising from animal instincts and in the conflict between these two, takes intellect; God, because of his grace and wisdom, has bestowed intellect as an inner prophet and messenger upon human so that he can distinguishes good from evil. And, this is one of the most important criteria of human benevolence compared with other creatures.
Therefore, any factor fostering and developing rationality must be respected and used so that intellectuality and rationality be sustained in different strata of the society, take root and become a public culture. The result is that many problems human is dealing with particularly those existing in metropolises will be solved. Truly, when all people or large portion of them reach an acceptable level of intellectuality and achieve high level of rationality and wisdom, there shall be no sign of oppression, injustice, conflicts, schism, intrigue, avarice and malice, jealousy, lie, gossip and backbiting, incorrect relationships, insult and defamation, competition in material life, etc. all of which are signs of governance of ignorance and dominance of Satan which are in contrast with human benevolence and cause anxiety and stress resulting in different diseases, and we shall have a good society with pure and benevolent people, where there shall be no sign of oppression, conflict, schism, family fragmentation, divorce, unaccompanied children, narcotics and complications of it, lack of trust, theft, robbery, etc.
Taking into account the important position of rationality in Islamic thoughts and considering Islamic narrations in which wisdom is a criterion praised more than other factors, wisdom has, in some narrations, been introduced as a criterion for religiosity [1]. These narrations indicate that if a person has no wisdom, he won’t be religious, and the one who is not religious won’t enter the heaven. Moreover, based on other narrations, wisdom is introduced as a friend and ignorance as an enemy of human being [2]. That is why God named wisdom as the most desired creature [3].
In traditional societies such as Kitab al-Kafi (The Sufficient Book), the first chapter noticed by the reader is entitled “Wisdom, Its Position & Significance versus Ignorance & Its Disadvantages” [4].

2. Promotion of Science & Knowledge of Human
From the perspective of Islamic worldview, science and knowledge is of particular significance. God, in Holy Quran, through denial interrogation, in explaining status of science and knowledge, orders the prophet to announce people: «قُل‏ هَلْ یَسْتَوِی الَّذینَ یَعْلَمُونَ وَ الَّذینَ لا یَعْلَمُون‏» [6] “Say: are those who know and those who do not know alike?”
In fact, science is like a light for wisdom and heart and ignorance brings darkness for the heart. If the eye of heart is open, not blind, and lust and covetous desires and sins have not blurred and dimmed it and the light of science and knowledge is always on, wisdom shall perceive the realities of the existence world through the light of science, and subsequently human’s attempt for achieving human and spiritual virtues will be doubled, this is the optimal perfection that the Creator has considered for human and is, in fact, indicative of human reverence.
Therefore, the higher gets the level of knowledge of human, to the same extent, the more intellectuality and benevolence will be.
Considering the fact that all lofty human talents will appear in the era of emergence, the summit of such scientific promotion for human, in accordance with Islamic narrations, will be at the time of emergence. And this is, in fact, another sign of human reverence in Imam al-Mahdi’s (AS) Conduct.
With regard to scientific status of society at the time of emergence, Imam Sadegh says: science is of 27 parts and chapters; the whole science presented by prophets is only 2 chapters of it, and people won’t know more than these two chapters; therefore, when The Upholder rises, he will spread among people the other 25 chapters, and at that time, along with the previous 2 chapters, 27 chapters of science will be spread among people [7].
It can be implied that we should be moving in the course of acquiring knowledge at the time of occultation and save our society and ourselves from ignorance, since many misbehaviors, delinquencies and social and family problems are due to lack of knowledge and ignorance of people. Satan uses such defect for gaining more dominance over people.
Therefore, all people particularly those in charge of managing the society including the government and cultural institutes must provide for necessary conditions for prosperity and intellectuality of the society and elevating knowledge of people because if the same is achieved, we shall have a good and righteous society in which human is respected.
To this end, we should do our best to learn such an important lesson from his conduct and not to ignore science and knowledge whether in a formal way, through school or university, or in an informal way, through studying and making correct use of opportunities, so that God, in accordance with tradition of transforming people when they change themselves, make adequate changes in us, and this shall ease our individual and social life particularly in terms of today’s complex relationships and provides for perfection and spiritual journey for all. In this way, human can achieve his innate benevolence, gets rid of difficulties of material life, its vain values and today’s incorrect and troublesome social relationships. Having such a point of view, either life problems and the relations governing them will disappear, or people will achieve so level of knowledge that they can get along with calamities and control them very well and preserve their self-esteem and benevolence.
3. Purification of the World & People
God has created human with God –seeking disposition. If he acts based on his God-seeking disposition, he will achieve human benevolence; therefore, his life will get meaningful, he will escape from nihilism and he will enjoy a unique peace and quiet. Such a life will be full of cleanliness and purity in which there is no sign of polytheism, worshiping things other than God, oppression, ethical vices, etc. This shall be fully achieved at the time of emergence, because, in accordance with different religions’ insights and Islamic insight, the future of all human will be accompanied by felicity, salvation and comprehensive evolution of all people. In that era, all human capacities will develop and manifest; therefore, human’s life will be fully purified, and in this way, human will achieve his innate benevolence. This is a promise made in connection with emergence of Imam Mahdi (AS) in Islamic narrations [8].
If our society, believing in Mahdaviat, assumes that Imam al-Mahdi (AS) will appear to purify the world from all signs of mischievousness, ethical misconduct, etc. and one of the most important messages given by him is governance of purity and cleanliness as well as divine religion in the world; therefore, it is necessary for all people to double their efforts in this area, to save themselves and all people from different material and spiritual pollution, filth and physical and spiritual vice, and to this end, to do their best, because human’s purification from every evil and obscenity, whether individual or social, shall result in promotion and elevation of ethics and disposition of human and shall entail spiritual perfection, and this will lead to human benevolence.
